Take a breath and remember who you are.


“Take a breath and remember who the fuck you are.”

The other day I saw this quote on Instagram and I laughed, agreed, and moved on with my busy day, the Thursday of a short week with a long list of to-dos. Soon after, Alyse posted to Facebook an invite to a Gixo workout in the afternoon. With a full plate, I knew a 25-minute sweat-session with friends would be just the thing to break up the day of being at my computer, so I wrote the words, “I’m in”. (Side Note: this is one of the things I like most about social media – you write something, press publish, and it’s in the world, which is enough to keep me accountable every time.)

Later that day, I headed out the door with just a few minutes to spare before the workout. I booked it to the park a few blocks from my apartment building and got a head start on the speed workout. Did I mention this class was a speed workout? Also known as sprints. 9 one-minute sprints to be exact. I think you get the point.

At some point between my heart racing and sending emojis back and forth between the Sarah, the Gixo coach, Alyse, and some new friends in the class, I was reminded why I want to be here, in this class and in everything I do – to sweat, connect with like-minded people, inspire myself and others, and as always, to have fun.

So for me, yes, take a deep breath. But also, get a good sweat, try new things, let go of anything holding you back, and remember who you are, why you are here, and what you love to do.

  1. I LOVE this and YOU. Definitely good to keep challenging yourself, pushing forward, and finding new edges. If anything, that’s the one thing being pregnant has truly taught me. We are all limitless…and not designed to just sit and stagnate 🙂 Keep rockin’…all those sweaty workouts, sprints and things that make you, YOU.

  2. I love that about social media too! Great accountability! You and Jamie motivated me to join you for that walk / run on Monday when I had zero plans of doing that workout. I love it so much!
